There were multiple reasons behind American Foreign Policy becoming entrenched into the Middle East and North Africa after World War II. The first were the vacuums caused by British and French colonial withdrawals from the region. The second and perhaps chief reasons were geopolitical as the security of Middle Eastern oil and gas reserves was a then existential national interest to the American and world economy. A third reason were domestic political interest in supporting the State of Israel. The United States also had a long security relationship and friendship with House of Saud, carrying on where the British left off. Lastly, there were Cold War interests in which the Middle East became a battle ground of proxies.
