War is an enormous investment of resources - and of course it gets people killed! Since most of us prefer not to get involved in a fight that doesn't effect us directly, they was considerable sentiment in the US to stay out of the fight. It was far from the US - across the ocean. Unlike most of the European countries involved at the start of the war, the US had no treaties committing them to get involved if, for example, country A went to war with country B. Eventually it became apparent that it WAS effecting the US as the attacks on US ships carrying goods and people to and from Europe were attacked by the surface ships and submarines of some of the warring nations. Since the German navy was doing the most damage to US shipping, the US got involved on the side that was opposing them and their allies.

the us stay out of the war because Americans saw no reason to join a war that was 3,000 miles away, the war did not threaten American lives or property. Many Americans still followed the war because they still had ties to the nation's.

America stayed neutral during the early years of the war because they felt that the Allied powers could win the war without the help of the US. Also The US felt no need to enter the waar because they thought that the Atlantic Ocean could separate the US from the dangers of the War.
