Why didn't Hitler want a two front war?

He didn't. Although in "Mein Kampf" he was critical of the German government's decision to fight on two fronts during World War I, he turned around and did the same thing himself in World War II when he attacked the Soviet Union while still at war with Britain. Hitler's invasion of the Soviet Union was the beginning of the end for the Third Reich.

This is because, a two-front war is what caused the German Empire's loss in the first World War. He didn't want this happening again, but he was dumb enough to try invading the Soviet Union so that is exactly what he created. And he payed the price. Fighting a two-front war is a mistake, not only for Germany but ANY army. It is military suicide.

Militarily speaking it makes logical since to limit the amount of area you have to defend. One front as opposed to two is preferred because you don't have to dilute your forces to defend separate areas. Plus having military forces fighting in only one theater of war cuts down on logistical problems such as how to supply each division with food, ammo, medical supplies and rearmament.

With that said Hitler during WWII made the war losing decision to prematurely open up a second front against Russia before gaining air superiority over Britain. His forces now had to be split to defend both fronts making the Wehrmacht as a whole less effective and in the end costing Germany victory. More over the occupation of Italy could be considered a third front for Germany compounding a already precarious strategic situation.

In conclusion Germany did very little to avoid fighting on fronts in WWII.
