A synonym for the Viet Cong is the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam (NLF). This term refers to the communist-led guerrilla force that fought against the U.S.-backed South Vietnamese government during the Vietnam War. They were also commonly referred to as "VC" or "Charlie" by U.S. forces.
