The US Air Force always owned the B-17F named the "Memphis Belle". The USAF took back ownership of the Belle. It was dismantled and taken back to Air Force Museum where it is undergoing a full restoration that was supposed to take almost 8 years. Odd---if only the Air Force has spent a fraction of the money on it while it was in Memphis, the bomber could have been refurbished and keep in good order.
