The average life span of a motorcycle motor (assuming the motor was properly put together) is directly related to the operator of the motor. The age of the motor (birthday) is also part of the equation. Newer methods and materials help prolong life in spite of the abuse of the user. Due to the fact that most motorcycles operate on a rather "high performance" level, and are used, to a great extent, for recreational purposes, they tend to "wear" faster than automobile motors. Also, proper maintenance is essential in determining "life span".

Motors that are used for racing will wear faster than those used for leisure use, like touring.

So your average life span must be focused upon the usage of a given motor, the quality of manufacture and maintenance.

Many BMW riders report hundreds of thousands of miles from a single motor. Honda owners report the same with their "wings" and other touring machines. Let's face it, it's not so much the maker that is responsible for longevity as is the user.

How long will a watch run? How long will a gun fire? What's the average of anything? The answer is almost always entirely up to you. I suggest you be better than average.

Change can be good, oil change can be best.No matter what, invest.
