The 1981 Honda CB400 and CM400 differ primarily in their design and intended use. The CB400 is a standard motorcycle known for its upright riding position and versatility, while the CM400 is a cruiser with a more relaxed seating posture and lower handlebars. Additionally, the CB400 typically features a sportier look and performance-oriented components, whereas the CM400 is designed for comfort and leisurely rides. Both models share the same engine platform but cater to different riding styles.

Can you add a kickstart to a Honda CM400?

No - not at any kind of economical cost. The entire gearbox and engine bottom end would need to be reconfigured and customised by an experienced auto engineer on a one off basis. The alternative would be to replace the entire engine with a compatible engine which already has a kickstart.

I changed the coil on my 1980 Honda cm400 so why im i not getting any spark to the plugs?

Here are possible causes of no spark on the 1980 CM400, starting from the easiest to fix: kill switch turned to "off" position. Bad spark plugs. (It's important to be aware that on this bike, both spark plugs must not be fouled; If either one is fouled enough not to fire, there will be no spark, because the way the system is designed it takes both plugs to complete the ignition spark plug circuit.) Kill switch malfunction, causing the coil to be grounded. Ignition switch malfunction, causing the coil to be grounded. Bad Coil. You've presumably eliminated this, but consider the possibility the new or used coil you obtained could be bad) bad pulser coil or stator. (follow instructions in the shop manual to test these, the manual is available all over the net in .pdf)

Does a Honda CMX450 swinger arm fit on a Honda CM400?

I have looked into this and am of the opinion that the swing arms are exchangeable, especially when you consider that in the US models of the 400/450 series of these bikes, several different lengths of swin arms were used. However, there are a few things to consider. The CMX 450 uses 18 inch rim while the CM 400 uses a 16 wheel rim for the rear wheel. The build of the two swing arms is a bit different as there is a rectangular frame swing arm on the 450 while the shape of the 400 swing arm is round. The pivot bolt size is similar, 8 mm. In case the bolt length is not similar this is easily modified. Some Honda CM 400 owners have re-built the swing arms of their bikes, especially in the UK, as these parts are now rather hard to get except from E-bay. In case any modification is needed it is only slight.
