The speed sensor is mounted on the right side of the transmission case below the starter.
To remove the speedometer sensor on a 1999 Harley Davidson 1200 Sportster, first, disconnect the battery to ensure safety. Locate the speedometer sensor, which is typically found on the side of the transmission. Use a socket or wrench to unscrew the sensor from its mounting position, then gently pull it out. Make sure to check for any wiring connections and disconnect them if necessary before fully removing the sensor.
On a 1999 Harley Heritage Classic, the speedometer sensor is located on the transmission. Specifically, it is mounted on the left side of the transmission housing, where it detects the rotation of the speedometer drive gear. This sensor sends signals to the speedometer to display the motorcycle's speed accurately. If you're having issues with the speedometer, checking this sensor and its connections is a good starting point.
on top, right side of trans
The speedometer sensor is located directly above the tranny end cover (toward the rear) on the right side of the bike. You'll see the wire leading from it.
a 95 harley does not use a digital speedometer. If urs has one, it is probably aftermarket modificiation.
It should be on top of, or near the transmission. Mine is an '07 and it is located just to the right of where the battery ground connects to the case.
I don't think Harley has a retro fit kit to do the change, also the speedometer might not be calibrated for the XL, this speedometer runs off a speed sensor on the transmission and is sensitive. This speedometer can only be used on the FXDWG ('95-'98) Softails ('96-'98) FLHR/I ('95-'98) using retro fit Harley Davidson Part # 67418-99. Hope this helps......
Speedo sensor is bad. Located on top of the transmission, right hand side.
i have a 1995 harley e- glide , recently the speedo quit i dont know if its electric or man how do i go about fixing i have a 1993 sportster with the same problem.....replace the speedo cable, it's a piece of cake and costs maybe 40 bucks. Ehmm...an electra-glide does not have a spedoocable like the sportster...check the cables behind the dials, or on the other end by the speed sensor.
wont fire, timing off, backfiring
On a Harley Davidson Sportster, the bank angle sensor is typically located near the motorcycle's ignition system, often mounted to the frame or near the engine. Its primary role is to detect the angle of the bike in relation to the ground, helping to prevent engine start if the bike is tipped over. For exact placement, it's best to consult the specific service manual for your Sportster model, as there may be slight variations depending on the year and model.
The speed sensor is located in the speedometer assembly, at the back of where the speedometer needle connects.
