South Africa is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean on the west and the Indian ocean on the east. The two oceans meet on the southern coast of the country.

There are four major rivers in South Africa: the Orange River, Vaal River, Palmiet River, and Breede River. The Orange River (also called the Senqu, Groote or Gariep River) starts in mountains in Lesotho, a country in the middle of South Africa, and empties into the Atlantic Ocean on South Africa's west coast, on the border of South Africa and Namibia. It's largest tributary is the Vaal River, which is in the center of South Africa. The Palmiet River empties into the Atlantic Ocean on the southeastern coast. It is significant mostly because of the hydroelectric plant located in it. The fourth river, the Breede River, starts inland and empties into the Atlantic Ocean.
