No. Minors cannot enter into a contract. Tell the "karate" place to take a hike. They're just trying to scare you. Is he 18 now? If he attended a class after he reached the age of majority, he can be considered to have 'validated' the contract and be held to it. It may be worth it to consult an attorney.

Similarities between tort and contract?

There is no similarity. A "tort" is a civil 'wrong, and and punishable under civil law as opposed to an "offense" which is a criminal wrong and chargeable under criminal law. A "contract" is merely a written instrument that binds two parties to certain obligations made between them. Violation of a contract can be pursued in court as a "tort" action.

Can you cancel a new car contract?

Most states have a three-day grace period after signing a contract for a car purchase, mortgage, etc. That means you can change your mind within three days and get out of the contract. After that, or if you don't live in such a state, you're stuck. Most state do not on vehicle purchases. As far as I know California is the only state that has that law and it just went into effect in 2005. In Texas, the law says once you sign the contract and take posession of hthe car, you are done unless it is a lemon. If you do not sign off on the car and leave it at the dealership, you foil the completion of the contract cycle in taking financing and registration. That is straight from the DOTx rules. The car that my dad sign for the money was going to be out of pocket. There was no finance, because my dad would not qualify for loans. The car dealership was aware of my dads situation. The car was never purchased yet, no money has been exchanged. In the stat of California is he still liable?

Is Kenya government liable in tort or contract?

Torts and contracts are usually between individuals, and not the individual and state with reference to crime. Parties to a contract and torts are liable in case of a breach and the government is only liable when it comes to the laws that have been set up to govern torts and contracts.

What is the legal age that a person can be contractually liable?

A person of any age can be contractually liable, but for minors, the liability can be escapable. A minor may enter a contract, and as a minor, can freely void the contract. However the contract must be totally voided, or the minor will be held liable. As an example, a child cannot enter a contract in which he receives material goods, and then void the contract and keep the goods without keeping up to his end of the contract. He must return the goods in that case, to be legally allowed to void the contract. The laws though can vary from country to country, and also the definition of a minor can differ.
