What you just described and the book you quoted are about the Comanche, not the Cherokee man. They are very different tribes.

No. Traditional men and women wore their hair in a bun called a tsiiyéél. It is a symbol of Changing Woman. Later men sometimes worn a scarf across the forehead or cut square bangs like Pueblo people. Then men wore cowboy hats for a long time. The only paint on faces is during some ceremonies.
