The earth revolves around the sun but it's tilted. The angle of the tilt doesn't change just the position of the planet. The summer is when that part of the globe is tilted towards the sun. If the northern hemisphere is tilted toward the sun the southern hemisphere would be tilted away. The part tilted towards the sun gets more sunlight and is warmer. The part tilted away wouldn't get as much light and would be colder.
While the Earth revolves around the Sun, the axis is always pointed in the same direction, so the Sun's light hits different parts of the Earth at different angles. For example, in summer in the Northern Hemisphere, the top of the Earth's axis is pointed towards the Sun, so the light hits the Earth there more directly, causing more heat.

The northern hemisphere will have daylight due to the tilt of the Earth's axis. As the Earth revolves around the Sun, different parts of the hemisphere receive varying amounts of sunlight throughout the year. This results in longer daylight hours during summer and shorter daylight hours during winter in the northern hemisphere.
When Earth revolves around the sun different areas will get different amounts of insolation. For example, in the Northern Hemisphere our winter days are shorter and summers are longer.

The cause for the seasons is fairly simple. As the Earth with it's tilted axis of rotation revolves around the Sun in its orbit, the different hemispheres (north and south) will get more or less direct radiation from the Sun. This causes more or less heat gain. If it is summer in the northern hemisphere this hemisphere will face the sun and the Southern Hemisphere will be away from the sun creating winter in the south. The Earth is actually closer to the Sun during the northern hemisphere's winter (about 3 000 000 000 kilometers closer!) and furthest away from the Sun in July. But this actually makes the northern hemisphere summer longer because the earth spends more time in it's orbit when further away from the Sun and as the north is tilted towards the Sun at this time, summer lasts longer!
