Santa Claus, or Father Christmas, is popular all over Africa, wherever Christianity is.

African families celebrate Christmas just as you do in the northern hemisphere; Christmas Day lunch, Christmas trees, mom or dad in a warm Santa Claus outfit, Church in the morning, Christmas carols, fake snow, Christmas decorations, gift giving, visiting family etc. American Hollywood movies of Christmas are also wide spread.

Each language in Africa will have its own translation of Father Christmas or Santa Claus though many also speak English and will understand those names just fine. French is also popular and there are pockets of German and Italian.

Obviously the celebrations vary based on poverty which is widespread in Africa. I grew up in relatively well-off South Africa and we celebrated Christmas very similarly to how I celebrate it now in Ireland. We even had a few Christmas day lunches on the beach in 30 degree heat.
