Kenya is named after Mt. Kenya its highest mountain. It is the second highest mountain in Africa after Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. It is a misconception that the name Kenya originated from its first president Mzee Jomo Kenyatta. And whilst the name came from Mt. Kenya, the mountain was not originally called Kenya as Kikuyu locals called it Kirinyaga (mountain of whiteness). British colonialists found it hard to pronounce hence Kiinyaa and later Kenya (Home of the Gods).

∙ 14y agoThe name "Kenia" has several different meanings. It could be named for the African country of Kenya, which used to be spelled "Kenia."
In Welsh, it means "greatest champion." In Hebrew, it means "animal horn." In the Kikuyu language, which is of African origin, it means "the abode of God."
I have also heard from several different sources that it also means "gorgeous woman."
