The American Library Association Young Adult Services Division chose, as the best book for young adults, Maguire's I Feel Like the Morning Star in 1989. Maguire's Seven Spiders Spinning was listed among the year's 100 books by the New York Public Library, and named a Judy Lopez Memorial Award Honor Book, in 1995. His Missing Sisters was named a Parents Choice Honor Book, in 1994. Maguire was artist-in-residence at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1994; the Hambridge Center in Georgia, in 1998; and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, in 1999. Maguire's The Good Liar was included on The Young Book Trust of England's 100 best books, in 1996; and in 1999 named among the New York Public Library's 100best books of the year, the Booklist's top 10 choices in historical fiction for children, and the National Council of Social Studies/CBC's notable social studies trade book. His Oasis was included on the New York Public Library's 1997 list of books for the teen age. And Maguire's Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister was included on the New York Public Library's list of books for the teen age, in 2000.
