The West Indies got its name as a result of Christopher Columbus' ingnorance. Columbus believed that he had discovered a new route to Asia and when he saw the amerindians he thought they was in India and they were India. however he was miles away from Indian and the east Indians he was in the west. this resulted in the west indies getting its name
