Crocodiles spend a lot of time laying in wait in the water, ready to ambush a passing fish, or an animal going into the water. During the annual wildebeest migration, crocodiles will gather at the customary river crossing places, waiting to catch a wildebeest attempting to cross the river. By crossing in huge numbers the wildebeest ensures that quite a few manage to reach the other side.
