I assume you have something like a V12 with two banks of 6 cylinders each fed with a separate coil. I suggest you pull the lead off one of the plugs (with the engine off, naturally) and push a big nail inside the plug lead. Hold the end of the lead between two pieces of wood to insulate it and start her up. Point the nail as close to the spark plug as you can without touching it (or to any clean point on the engine block, like a bolt head you have sanded shiny) and see if you get a rhythmic spark (or any spark at all). No spark = no electicity. It doesn't actually prove the COIL is faulty because it might be that the coil is not getting any electricity supplied to it, but it's a start.

The best way to find out if an electrical coil is faulty is to do a continuity test on it. For this action you will need a multi-meter set to the resistance (ohms) position. Connect the meter across the coil leads and the resistance of the coil should be read on the meters scale. If there is no reading it means that the coil is open and can not be energized.

Sometimes a coil will not go open but short a few windings within the coil itself. This will make the coil draw a higher current than it should and become hotter than normal. Eventually this additional heat will burn the coil open. The only way to trouble shoot this condition is to have a replacement coil of the same size to compare the resistance to.

Take a reading on the new coil and compare it to the old coil. The coil resistances should be relatively close. If the old coil has a bit lower resistive reading than the new one, say 5 percent, then the old coil is faulty.

What is the function of an electrical coil in a basic circuit?

There are a couple of examples that come to mind where there is a coil in a circuit. One is, the coil is used as a choke to block harmonics from going down the electrical line. Another example of a coil in the line is the coil in a magnetic contactor. When this coil is energized the contacts of the magnetic contactor close.

What is a voice coil?

a voice coil is the electromagnet that causes a speaker horn to move in response to the electrical impulses received from the amplifier.

How do you use a multimeter tester on dryer coils?

Generally, dryer coils either work or they don't. A multimeter can help you determine if a dryer coil is "burned out". If the coil has "continuity", it's probably fine. Generally, if there is a hot spot in the coil it will burn out rapidly.

How does a speaker and a microphone work in opposite ways?

A microphone converts sound into electrical impulses. A speaker converts electrical impulses into sound. Because they both work on the same principle, a changing electrical field (the audio signal) in a coil causes a magnet within the coil to vibrate in tandem. The magnet is attached usually to a paper cone which allow our ears to hear the sound. The converse is also true. For example if you talk into a headphone it causes the magnet to vibrate which produces an electrical signal in the coil which is connected to the headphone cable. What is made by passing an electric current through coils of wire?

An electro magnet is created when a current is passed through a coil of wire. This effect is the main operation of how an electrical solenoid operates.

No fire on 1969 350 engine with hei and accel super coil just replaced with new coil still no fire possible faulty distributer?

On a high energy ignition, possible problems include: Faulty keyswitch, faulty wiring or connectors, faulty pickup inside the distributor, faulty electrical condenser, if it has points (depends on the type of HEI) the points could be bad, faulty coil or faulty HEI control module. You will need to identify which component has failed.
