there are a few major population densities in India. the first is along the southern western edge. here you will find mumbai where major trade occurs, this is also the site of bollywood. many come there for commerce. also, this side of india is used for trading with its neighbors across to the west. the monsoon winds help ships (particularly wind powered in earlier times) to move along for trade.
another section is the north, along Nepal and close to the himalyas. this region is important because of the Ganges river, which is considered sacred and also important for life and farming. you will notice worldwide most major cities and population densities are along rivers, one pertinent example is the nile river and...the Ganges. check out a population density map of either one sometime.
the third region is in its northeast corner. this region is near bengladesh or as history would call it "east Pakistan." however i wont get into that becuase its a long story. this region is filled with fairly notoriously bad labor. like shoe creation, sweat shops and such. however, on a lighter note, india is becoming a very powerful nation in terms of its educated labor, english is the de facto language and so thats why when you call customer service for dell...you get an indian guy. this is becuase the labor is cheap over there just like china, and other countries, however since they speak english and are educated, they get the jobs.
