Immediately after quiting smoking, your chances of getting lung cancer are dramatically decreased. But as far as your lungs returning to normal capacity, they never return to 100% capacity. You can increase your capacity to as much as normal as possible by doing cardiovascular activities.
This is not entirely true. If depends how long you have been smoking. If you smoked for less than 10 years at a rate of 1 pack a day or less, your lungs will clear up in 7 to 11 years. However if you have smoked for a long time (like into your 40s or 50s or beyond) if might never fully recover as you might have done some permanent damage to your lungs and as your age advances, your body loses some ability to heal itself as effectively. Plus at an advanced age, you might not live long enough for your lungs to fully recover. So if you quit before 30, there is still hope; your lungs might be back to normal by 40. Also increasing activities like running can speed up your lung's recovery time.
Answer: Suppose you are a long-term smoker. What happens when you quit? Within 20 minutes of your last cigarette, your blood pressure will drop to normal. After a week your body will be free of nicotine. After one month your coughing, sinus congestion, fatigue, and shortness of breath will begin to decrease. After five years your risk of dying from lung cancer will have dropped by 50 percent. After 15 years your risk of coronary Heart disease will fall to that of a person who has never smoked at all.
Your food will taste better. Your breath, body, and clothing will smell better. You will no longer have the trouble or the expense of buying tobacco. You will have a feeling of accomplishment. If you have children, your example will reduce the likelihood that they will be smokers. You will likely live longer. Further, you will be acting in harmony with God's will, since the Bible says: "Let us cleanse ourselves of every defilement of [the] flesh." (2 Corinthians 7:1) Don't feel that it is too late for you to quit; the sooner you quit, the better. Tobacco is hard to breath because it is hard to breath. :) Actually, it is because the thickness of the smoke that you inhale that makes you hard to breath. If you take a little amount of smoke, it'll be quite easy. For the one who have smoking for a very long time, it'll be quite firm when they inhale quite amount of smoke. For the starters, it'll be difficult. That's the time when you get headache or dizziness along. I'm not sure that this answer is correct.
