Both had Semitic people. Assyria was once in the Babylonia Empire. Both built great cities where culture and learning were valued.
The difference could be based on climate. Since Assyria was a highland region, north of Babylonia, it had a more invigorating climate than Babylonia. Also the Assyrian culture was deeply indebted to that of the Babylonians, the Hittites and the Hurrians. The religion was adopted from the Babylonians except that Ashur the presiding god of the city of Ashur became the chief deity of Assyria. It was animistic nature worship.
Well both of them were empires and they both had a kin that ruled them. Finally they both invented something. Babylonia invented roadways and Assyria invented the battering ram.
All empires comes to and end.
The Hittites were able to defeat the Babylonians due to a combination of military strategy, superior technology, and effective use of chariots in warfare. Their well-organized army, equipped with advanced weaponry, allowed them to exploit weaknesses in the Babylonian defenses. Additionally, internal strife and the political instability within Babylon contributed to their inability to mount a unified defense against the Hittite invasion. This combination of factors ultimately led to the Hittite victory.
The Hittites defeated the Babylonian Empire around 1595 BCE during the reign of Hittite King Mursili I. This conquest marked a significant moment in ancient Near Eastern history, as it led to the Hittites establishing themselves as a major power in the region. The fall of Babylon was a pivotal event that contributed to the decline of the Old Babylonian period.

Which cuneiform are you refering to? Akkadian? Babylonian? Sumerian? Hittite? Old Persian? Ugaritic? Hittite cuneiform is kind of an anomaly because it is Indo-European language rather than Semitic.
