1). If you brought a jar from earth and opened it in space, the net flow would be OUT of the jar. Using the best available laboratory equipment on earth, you probably could not empty the jar as empty as outer space.

2). After the jar has been open in space and re-corked, the contents average perhaps one hydrogen atom or one speck of microscopic dust per cc of volume in the jar.

It really depends on where in space you carry out this useless exercise. Technically the exact contents would be different if it took place in the solar system, halfway to the nearest star, within the Orion nebula, or in the space between galaxies. In any case, the jar would contain a more pure form of 'nothing' than any previous jar had ever held.

Most spaghetti sauces come in a vacuum sealed jars, which preserve the contents for a specific shelf life. However, once you open the jar, all bets are off. Refrigerate any left-over contents of the jar and follow the same rules you would for any "left over" and dispose of it after a few days. The contents are perishable, but resistant to expiration when still sealed from the factory.

How can you get exactly four cups in a 5 cup jar with a 5 cup jar and a 3 cup jar?

Fill up 3 cup jar and pour into the 5 cup jar. Fill the 3 cup jar once more. Pour from the 3 cup jar in order to fill up the 5 cup jar. There will be 1 cup remaining in the 3 cup jar. Pour the contents of the 5 cup jar into the stock bottle and pour the contents of the 3 cup jar into the 5 cup jar (1 cup). Fill up the 3 cup jar once more then add it to the contents of the 5 cup jar to have a total volume of 4 cups in the 5 cup jar.

What would happen to a jar of jam in space?

Jam contains a high proportion of water, so it would depend on the physical strength of the jar. I'm assuming that this is a glass jar? Most likely, the jar would crack or shatter as the pressure around it was decreased, allowing the water in the jam to boil off into the vacuum.
