All of the northeast States such as Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin have climates where leaves change color in the fall. But even the more Southern States such as Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee, and even Western States like Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, etc. have fall foliage displays

The climate and types of trees determine which leaves fall and where they fall. Rain, sunlight, and temperature are the factors needed for leaves to begin changing colors, and how deeply the colors appear. Some trees only turn to yellows or reds, while other trees show a variety of colors. Reds and yellows typically indicate a wetter season, while browns indicate a drier season. The combination of temperature (at around 30 degrees) and strong October-November winds make the leaves separate from the trees and fall to the ground.
