The Makah Indians hunted hales and other sea animals. They were so connected to the ocean that they were on the sea almost all the time. They rode on their dugout canoes and fished off of them.
The Makah were skillful whale hunters. The Chinooks fished for river salmon. Shellfish and game were important foods too.
Cherokee Indians hunted deer, wild turkeys, bear, and fished in rivers, they also hunted buffalo, and grew there own crops.
The Palouse Indians depended heavily on fishing in the rivers that drained into the Pacific Ocean. They were a tribe of hunters and gatherers.

The Yurok, Wiyot, and Pomo Indians of what is now northern California hunted game, fished the rivers and the Pacific Ocean, and gathered plant material and acorns. They did not plant crops. The Chinook people who occupied what is now Oregon and Washington also hunted game, fished the rivers and ocean, and gathered plant materials that they did not plant.
