Unfortunately, based on the political corruption that permeated American cities in the 19th century, the police forces soon became a part of it as well.

The first lawyers were probably the Athenians of ancient Greece. All though, a lawyer is commonly known as a legal professional and the orators of Greece were not allowed to accept money to orate on behalf of others. In terms of paid professional it was the orators of ancient Rome that hold the distinction of being the first lawyers. In the time before Christ there were Roman orators who argued law on behalf of others.
