The IMAX Experience is different because it uses 35/70 mm film which is bigger than the traditional size in the regular movie theaters. This allows the picture to be larger than that of a normal size movie, immersing you in the picture. A usual size of the IMAX screen takes up about the size of one wall in your theatre, instead of a screen being in the center of a wall.

Is it better to watch Harry Potter in Deathly Hallows on imax?

Harry is amazing no matter what but if you can spare a few extra dollars for the imax experience, definitely do so! There are many elements of this newest movie that are surreal in an imax.

What are some characteristics of an Imax theater?

Because IMAX screens are so huge you get a much different, more immersive experience than you would on a normal movie screen. The resolution is also far superior, making images and movement clearer.

IMAX better than bluray?

When projected, as the size of the screen increases, the Blue-Ray quality decreases. IMAX was made for large scale theaters anyway, so it would be better to show IMAX on a large screen.

What is the difference between a movie released in a standard movie theater and an IMAX version of that movie?

IMAX is better than a regular movie theatre because of the size of the screen. The IMAX screen usually spans from wall to wall, unlike traditional screens that are mounted in the center of the room. The light used to project an IMAX film is a super bright 15,000 watt Xenon Bulb, which allows for a better, stronger, clearer picture with a higher rate of contrast. IMAX has special Sound Engenieers or Audio Engineers who specify in creating speakers with a more powerful output in addition to crystal quality sound. In addition, IMAX theatres are in general, of a much better quality, because of the standards that they have to abide by, set forth by IMAX corporation. IMAX tells the theatres which movies to play, how to show them, etc.

What is the difference between real 3d and imax 3d?

1) They are owned by different companies. Real3D is a company unto itself; Imax 3D is of course owned by Imax. Real3D can be retrofitted to any modern theatre; Imax 3D as far as I know is only meant to be used in Imax theatres. 2) They use a slightly different technique to achieve the 3D effect. Both use differential polarization: they show two pictures on top of each other, each one represents one "eye". The 3D glasses lenses are polarized differently, so the right lense filters out the left picture, and the left lens filters the right picture. However, the polarization technique itself is different. I believe that Imax 3D uses what is called "rotational polarization" whereas Real3D uses something else. 3) From experience, I find Real3D to result in better colour and crisper images, but not as much depth as Imax 3D. Imax 3D sometimes has overlapped images, but of course it must work in a much bigger theatre.

Are all IMAX theatres the same?

There are two different types of IMAX Theatres, IMAX domed theatres and IMAX flat-screened theatres. IMAX domed theatres have the image on a domed shaped screen in a generally circular room so that the image is projected in front, above, and to the left and right of you. IMAX flat screened theatres are like a larger version of a standard movie screen. IMAX flat screens have the capability to show 3D movies, unlike domes screened theatres.

What's the difference between videos shot with a normal video camera vs. IMAX technology?

IMAX is widescreen and a clearer digital picture but are much more expensive and high tech to shoot. The cameras way like 6 times that of a normal camera. IMAX done right is seen in a 360 wrap around screen so you feel like you are in the middle of the action yourself. IMAX pictures are only seen in IMAX capable theatres and not all are wrap around screens. Video and sound quality is at it's highest level or awesomeness with IMAX. The picture seems so much more clearer and precise. Normal cameras tend to be a little grainier.

Is there popcorn in the imax cinema in Birmingham?

Since the theater is in McWayne Center, I don't think so.

Is it better to watch Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on imax?

Personally, I'd recommend seeing it in a normal theater first, and if you want to see it a second time, go imax then. The first time I saw the 5th movie I saw it in imax, but regretted it because the screen was so big I couldn't see the whole picture.
