The 25 barons could at any time meet and overrule the will of the King if he defied the provisions of the Charter, seizing his castles and possessions if it was considered necessary. This was based on a medieval legal practice known as distrait, but it was the first time it had been applied to a monarch.
King William I would have got his barons to build motte and bailey castles all around England. He built the castles because there were so many rebellions. All the peasents didn't like that King William had killed their former King to gain the throne. If the peasents triedd to do anything out of line, they would get killed by the many soldiers
