The cable came loose under the hood. Look at the top of the engine near where the air cleaner enters the engine. You should see a cable that extends from the firewall near this location. Check all cables are securely connected in this area. On older carborated vehicles it's usually a broken return spring which will be more obvious. Good Luck Most likey the return spring.

soft peddle feel maybe from a damaged brake master cylinder. this pressurizes the peddle, and if there is a leak in the cylinder it might feel soft or flop all the way to the floor.
Poor quality floor mats without proper non-slip backing can slide under the accelerator. The floor mat can then either impede the accelerator or bunch up and push the accelator down.
