When Henry Hudson reached Canada in 1610, he explored the region around what is now known as Hudson Bay. He sought a northwest passage to Asia but became trapped in the ice during the winter. His crew faced severe hardships, leading to a mutiny in 1611, after which Hudson and a few loyal crew members were set adrift and never seen again.
