When you read you become part of the book, and the book becomes part of you. Your imagination makes the characters and plot real. Reading is a totally personal pursuit that not only provides understanding and structure of language, it enables dreams and abstract thought. Films and computer generated media are passive entertainment requiring no effort and therefore no imagination.

Younger minds are more capable of absorbing information and recalling said information. That is why it is best to learn a foreign language at a young age as well.

Absorbing and recalling are purely mechanical abilities,(you can be educated beyond your intelligence) understanding what has been read requires abstract thought and imagination, something a younger, unpolluted, mind has in abundance. Learning anything, included languages is best started young, but that was not what was asked in the initial question.

Reading is important in the future because it can lead us to better opportunities and not only that there will be alot of doors that would be opened for us and we human beings should keep reading so when it is the future, we know what is important about vocabulary and we know most of the reading skills. Reading is like best friends with us because it can lead us to better education and we can pass this knowledge on to our generations and our religion will be awesome to!

The most important reason why we should read is that by reading our attachment with the subject matter including the characters of the book has a lasting bond and the effect remains for a longer period if not permanently. It is disheartening to note that the young genre is now more inclined on watching movies in multiplex or via internet at home, and the public libraries have shown a declining trend in borrowing books or study at reading table. But it cannot be denied that reading books has an universal appeal. That's why so many books aref published all over the world, for which the readers throng at the book shops. However the Readers/Authors have opted for latest internet device viz. e-reading through which both the two groups avoid the hassle of reading voluminous books and interact between each other. The importance of reading as narrated above will continue to have mass appeal in the foreseeable future too.
