Many children go through this stage. It may stem from seeing certain movies, shows, or animated clips online that portray the violent offender as being "Cool". Video Games are a strong influence for some children as well as rough behavior by other family members or neighborhood kids. Local violence is often played out by younger children and they are committing adult-size crimes at a younger age.
Studies have shown that children who witness violence suffer cognitive impairment immediately following the act. If the violence is frequent they spend more time unable to function well in school. Those children need extra social support such as teaching them positive social and emotional skills that will help to empower them to withstand their exposure to violence.
A child who seems to like violence more than usual, acts out what he/she sees or victimizes other children should be watched and evaluated if it continues. Prisons are filled with children who grew up with violence. As the saying goes . . . "Pay now or pay later". Support should be available while they are young.
