Is there a war in any countries in Africa?

Yes: The anglo-boer war, basically a war for independence from Britain. South African troops also served as an Ally in the 1st (1914-1918) and 2nd (1939-1945) World Wars. During the 1970's and 1980's South Africa also conducted "war" in South West Africa/ Namibia and in Angola - predominantly against communist backed SWAPO and ANC training camps located in these two neighbouring countries (although South Africa for all intense and purpose occupied SWA/ Namibia for this period).

How did South Africa become free?

Every African country has a different history. Generally it can be stated that Africa got it's freedom through much blood and tribulation. Unfortunately too many wars and battles on this continent were marked by senseless and barbaric killings of the opposition. rather than peace talks. The worst of it was the bloodthirsty barbaric actions against tribes which wasn't part of yours. Take the Kenyan Mow-Mow slaughtering for instance. Shaka's reign that eventually lead to the formation of a mighty Zulu nation in Southern Africa, went with unbelievable atrocities committed by him and his army where there were absolutely no respect shown for smaller or weaker tribes. You either fitted in with his bloodthirsty ideas and supremacy or faced tribal alienation. The wars for freedom, often justified, were and still are financed by Africa's rich mineral deposits. In the 19th century the Boers of South Africa who were just farmers wanting to farm their own land for instance had to fight Queen Victoria of Britain and her huge armies in order to maintain their freedom. The old queen and her followers could simply not resist the temptation to try and take the mineral riches for themselves. The First Anglo Boer War was a glorious success for the handful of Boers against her Majesty's army. Once the British took control of South Africa by force in 1902, it was only a matter of time and they instructed the South Africans to chase the Germans out of German South West Africa, which took place just before the 1st World War. It was this war which saw the very first use of aircraft in a military situation in the world, even before an air force was officially established. The United Nations gave the South African Government control over South West Africa and once the Apartheid policies were also applied there in the latter half of the 20th century, SWAPO and other communistic countries started a war to end Apartheid there. Eventually that lead to Namibia's freedom. In Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe, probably one of the most corrupted African leaders ever, used his forces together with communist support to take over from the Ian Smith regime which were fighting British rule for their freedom. Today the Mugabe style freedom has caused that wonderful country endless trouble and hardships with the result that millions of them swarmed into South Africa, Johannesburg in particular, to try and make ends meet because they have lost their "freedom opportunities" in their own country. This flooding of foreign jobless labour from Zimbabwe and many other northern African countries are hopelessly managed by the South African ANC Government. With the result that genocide between black tribes is now again in the order of the day. Unfortunately the African concept of FREEDOM is their own biggest enemy! To generalise; mostly it means freedom to murder and maim, and demand what I cannot earn through honest hard work and knowledge. What a pity! It's only a strong government with high morals, respect for each other and differences of opinion and strict discipline, that could change that for the better. And that, is a long way in coming..
