If you mean the H.G. Wells novel, it is about a man who mixed chemical test it on a cat than drank it. Then he did lots of criminal stuff. He died in the end.
If you mean the Ralph Ellison novel called Invisible Man, then it is about the plight of the African-American community and anger directed towards the leaders of that time. Ellison was angry with the class politics of the Communists and Marxists and felt betrayed. The story is a narrative told by a protagonist in the first person. He starts off explaining that he is not literally invisible through some physical condition, but that others refused to look at him. Because he was invisible, he was able to steal electricity and use 1369 light bulbs simultaneously while listening to Louis Armstrong on a phonograph. He goes on the tell some tales about college life, workplace events, problems with labor unions, and police injustice. A major theme was the idea that the Black Brotherhood is more important than any individual.
The man who cannot be seen, unlike the time traveller, does Have a Name. he is called Mr. Griffin. Invisibility was NOT one of the powers of the winged-Lion mythical animal called the Griffin, often associated , like the Lion, with publishing and books. I am glad that Wells at least gave this important character a name. In a very loose sense- and on the right side of the Law- Lamont Cranston, The Shadow- is loosely derived from the Invisible Man but he projects mental illusions- can read minds- has the power to (Cloud Mens" Mind) learned in the Orient and so on. furthermore Mr. Shadow is a good guy, like Adventure comics" Invisible Kid who was in fact the commander of the Legion of Super Heroes- so had an executive capacity- nothing transparent about that.
The protagonist in this amazing novel actually goes without a name for the entirety of the story. Although he refers to himself as Jack the Bear, the reference is in jest.
H.G. Wells wrote The Invisible Man.
