For me there were two major companies / types - Converse & Keds / Pro-Keds. In the 1960s, I ranged from 3 to 12 and hence wore slip-on, CVO, and some athletic sneakers. My favor pair of sneakers during this time were the Keds Surfers - slip-on and CVO (Oxford 4 to 5 eyelet lace up). I also had lots of friends wearing the Converse low and high-tops in white and black.
It wasn't until the 1970's that other brands ended up in my area of the USA (rural America (Ohio, West Virginia).
