While historically, all major North American cities are "cities of immigrants", Toronto in particular has that reputation for a variety of reasons. 1) Most of the 4 million plus people in the area arrived historically recently (100-150 years) and therefore most remember their "immigrant" roots. 2) More immigrants to Canada settle in Toronto every year than any other Canadian city. 3) According to the UN, Toronto is the most ethnically diverse city on the planet statistically. 4)Finally, as a relatively new city (compared to New York or Boston) it did not receive 300 or so years of mostly Anglo Protestant Immigration, (and Anglo Protestants rarely consider themselves immigrants.) 5)Finally in Toronto, as in many cities, the wide variety of different cultures are often celebrated citywide making immigrant culture more visible. Toronto's Caribana festival is the largest outside the Caribean, Chinese New Year and Italian Week festivals are also huge favorites!
Because there's ALOT of immigrants and Toronto is the main stop for them.
