If both parents are highly involved "carers" then this would likely improve the child's self-esteem immensely, unless the parents disagree a lot and fight about the child. Even in this case, this behavior of the parents can be modified if they mutually recognize this behavior and agree to disagree but not to fight, and to watch out for the child trying to ask the same question to both parents in order to get a more favorable outcome.
I think that having two highly involved parents caring for their child is amazing - children who are exposed to two stable, highly involved caregivers will likely grow up with an expanded view of their own worth, and will also learn to negotiate with two different personalities. In addition, each parent will have strengths and weaknesses that are individual, and this will contribute to the learning experience of the child.
