Considering your guidelines, I think the X-Ray gaming headset by turtle Beach would be up your alley. It's PS3 and Xbox compatible. It's under $100 if you can believe that!. The surround sound is adjustable so you can set the angle of the speakers to fully suit anyone's hearing.
Plus it's Wireless on the latest two channel wireless frequency so won't get interference like other headsets. Plus some other cool extras make the X-Ray one of my fav's.

About the only way to fix this is to replace the damaged part with a new one. This is probably not practical on a headset.

Depends on what you would get more use out of. If you have an already nice phone i wouldn't get the iphone. Or if you have an IPod Touch. If you're into gaming you should get a PS3. It has free online and lasts longer. If you find it hard to hear your tv or if you're actually ever going to use the wireless headset get that. If you want an IPod Touch/Gaming combo, you should get the IPad. I would personally get the IPad. Considering I already have a Xbox 360, Android Phone, and I don't watch TV too often.

The best computer headset will come from Sennhieser. It has a great quality. For gaming I love the combination of Mix Amp from Astro Gaming, with the Sennhieser PC 350 if you can't afford these two, then go get your self a Astro A40. If you still can't then get the Turtle Beach X41.
