How do you legally protect a reality tv show concept?

You really don't. I'm a member of the TV Academy (ATAS) and the Producer's Guild (PGA). In every seminar I've gone to about reality shows (3 or 4), someone asks this question. Some peole say that the closest you can get is to register it at the WGA, but I hear that's not legally binding. Networks don't purchase concepts anyway -- they purchase a series, which includes the concept as well as the execution (development, production, and editing). Unless you have the whole package, there's nothing for you to sell. Sorry!
