What was the purpose of the first motion picture?

A photographer views the world completely different than most people do!

my edit: back when big huge machines that were very loud called cameras where invented, the people had to stay still for a minute! of they didnt it would be a huge blur! and it was used to put a picture of the family for people in the civil war, believe it or not, the little picture holding locket was called an oreo!

The purpose of the oldest motion picture is the same as the purpose of the most recent motion picture- to entertain! Although, the clarification over what is the fist motion picture is sometimes debatable. Generally, the first feature film is credited to The Story of the Kelly Gang (1906) from Australia. It was a police vs. gang action film with fire, trains, and shootouts. It likely had scenes of suspense and thrill to "wow" and shock audiences just as the movies of today do.
