Apollo 1- a launch pad test resulted in a fire in the space capsule exacerbated by the fact that, at that time, NASA had a high oxygen atmosphere in space capsules, which greatly intensified the fire. The 3 astronauts in the capsule were killed, Grissom, White and Chaffee. They were the only Astronauts lost in the Apollo program.
I am not sure if you still can, but I think you can watch it on abc com. I am looking for a site where you can watch previous seasons of The Bachelor.
Vanguard I failed to launch. The rocket exploded on the launching pad. NACA ( yes, it was NACA at the time ) was in a hurry to catch up with the Soviets and the launch was pre-mature.
The launch pad (even hours after launch) is not a place you'd want to be.See the related link for more information.
gravity and frictional force
It is a little burnt but the launch pad is designed to take extreme heat and pressure created by the space shuttle. If it wasn't, they would have to make a new launch pad every launch and those things are worth a pretty penny...
Launch Pad - card game - happened in 2010-11.
Satellite launch vehicle redirects here. For the Indian rocket, see Satellite Launch VehicleA Saturn V launch vehicle sends Apollo 15 on its way to the moon.In spaceflight, a launch vehicle or carrier rocketis a rocket used to carry a payload from the Earth's surface into outer space. A launch system includes the launch vehicle, the launch pad and other infrastructure.[1] Usually the payload is an artificial satellite placed into orbit, but some spaceflights are sub-orbital while others enable spacecraft to escape Earth orbit entirely. A launch vehicle which carries its payload on a suborbital trajectory is often called a sounding rocket
Apollo 7 launched from the Air Force Station's launch pad LC-34 (this was the only Apollo mission that did not launch from Kennedy Space Center's launch pad 39-A)
