There is no 'the desert.' There are about 28 major deserts located across the globe and a number of other minor ones. The desert is not a single entity, it is many. Deserts are located across the southwestern United States, in central and northern Mexico, in western and south-central South America, in Australia, in Asia and across much of Africa. The largest desert of all is the Antarctic Desert in Antarctica.
