The Honkers was made in Carlsbad, New Mexico. We worked as extras for $25.00 dollars a day . It was a lot of money to us back then. Some of the scenes were shot in Artesia, New Mexico at the Navaho Rifinery. Carlsbad is home to Carlsbad Caverns National Park and Guadalupe Mountains National Park

.

I was playing in a band at the Ramada Inn night club when they were filming the Honkers movie in Carlsbad. The cast and crew were staying at the Ramada and most of them came to the club nightly. It was an exciting time because the club was standing room only with local people wanting to see the movie people. I remember seeing Jim Davis, Slim Pickens, Larry Mahon, and Lois Nettleton. I met James Colburn at a local recording studio. I was also an unpaid extra in several scenes.............Nowlin Tubbs
