Miss Almira Gulch was the character who was part of Dorothy Gale's real time life in Kansas. She was hostile to Dorothy, Dorothy's pet dog Toto, and Dorothy's relatives Uncle Henry and Aunt Em. She therefore made an equally hostile appearance in Dorothy's dreamland sequences in the beautiful, enchanted, magical lands of Oz. As the Wicked Witch of the West, she was bent on making Dorothy and Toto as unhappy in Oz as she had tried to make their lot in Kansas.

∙ 13y agoAlmira Gulch is the equivalent of, and model for, the Wicked Witch of the West in the Kansas segments of the beloved 1939 film version of 'The Wizard of Oz'. She and Dorothy Gale don't get along in Kansas because of differing opinions over what's acceptable behavior by Dorothy's pet dog Toto. They don't get along in Oz because of differing opinions over who's the rightful owner of the beautiful, magic slippers of the deceased Wicked Witch of the East.
