Chandragupta Maurya, The Unified India's First Own Emperor (340 - 298 BCE)

He succeeded in conquering most of the Indian subcontinent other than southern most Tamil-land and is considered the first unifier of India as well as its first genuine emperor. After Alexander the great invaded into India (BC 4th Century), It gave a spark to the dis-integrated small kingdoms to conjoin and defense themselves. The conquests and heroics had inspired a small boy and provoked him to become emperor.

The first civilization in India settled in the Indus River Valley. This area was occupied by the Aryans. As for the first king....

Kuru was the name of an Indo-Aryan tribe and their kingdom in the Vedic civilization of India, and later a republicanMahajanapada state. Their kingdom was located in the area of modern Haryana. They formed the first political center of the Indo-Aryans after the Rigvedic period, and after their emergence from the Punjab, and it was there that the codification and redaction of the Vedic texts began. Archaeologically, they most likely correspond to the black and red ware culture of the 12th to 9thcenturies BC. At this time, iron first appears in western India. Iron is still absent from the Rigvedic hymns, and makes its first appearance as "black metal" in the Atharvaveda.

There isn't a distinct first recorded "king" although there is a "king"dom
Hope this answered it
