"Outsiders" a novel published in 1967 was ranked 43rd amongst the top 100 banned books by the American Library Association. They banned freak shows because people felt that having people who looked 'different' entertain people who were considered 'normal' was wrong and sad for the entertainer to have to work with such conditions.
