Catholicism was the main faith of the French in New France because the settlers brought their faith with them. France was a Catholic country and as a result, it became the primary religion of New France.

Roman Catholicism in new France was important because it was a religion that they could hold on to and because that's the religion they followed in France, and in new France, anyone who was not Catholic in new France was not to be considered a person and could not live there
