Why do adults criticize other adults for watching kid cartoons?

Well, I mean like when adults are watching kids Cartoons it's just not very grown up. Maybe you just enjoy watching it for the memories or for the laughs, but their's other shows for grown ups that are cartoons, such as South Park, Family Guy, Futurama, I grew up with those cartoons, though.

∙ 12y agoBecause you're getting your information on what's "acceptable" from the wrong people. If an adult wants to watch cartoons, there's nothing actually wrong with that; it depends on what they like to watch and they don't like. Some cartoons are actually made with the occasional sly wink for the adults in the audience, for example : "Rocky and Friends" and "Rocko's Modern Life" (That might be a better example for those under, say, 40).
Other examples:
- The Simpsons is not usually thought of as strictly a children's show, although many children watch it nowadays.
- The Flintstones was not originally a children's show. It was acceptable for kids, yes, but not really aimed at them... it was based loosely on "The Honeymooners".
- Rocky and Friends featured a lot of concepts that kids were unlikely to have even heard of (The "Ruby Yacht" of Omar Khayyam being one I can recall off the top of my head).

of cores not i am only 12 and i mostly watch cartoons but you should try to watch other stuff but no it is your choice but i do recommend you watch other stuff other than cartoons but you still can watch cartoons.
Why do adults expect teens to grow up and not watch cartoons?
Not all adults expect that. Many adults watch cartoons themselves. I think in general though, adults have a lot of responsibilities and they want teenagers to learn about responsibilities and learn to contribute to society before they become adults. Some of them might push too hard, but some teenagers don't take responsibility for pretty much anything either... so there is no way to say "this group is right and this group is wrong" in questions like this. I'm an adult, and I take responsibility for a lot of things... have a job, pay the rent, etc. But I also like cartoons. I don't necessarily think that one has anything to do with the other. It is just the perception that people are sitting around watching something silly and not learning to work hard... that sort of thing.

Was spongebob really meant for adults?
No, it really wasn't, there's little if any evidence of that, the show was meant to appeal to both adults and kids, seeing how adults usually are forced to watch cartoons with their kids, the show added some adult humor to itself, humor that only the adults would get. Other then that, no, it was always intended to be a kids show. The same effect happened with other kids shows like Rocko, Rugrats, and many others.

There are many childrens sites online that play animated cartoons. One of these sites is YTV. Any other station that plays cartoons on TV, will probably have the cartoons online to view for your enjoyment.

While the majority of adults may not necessarily watch cartoons that are aimed at little kids, classic cartoons like Looney Tunes are still entertaining, and many adults appreciate them.In our culture, we expect adults to be "mature," and historically, cartoons have been considered something associated with children; thus, you may not hear a lot of adults admitting they still enjoy watching cartoons.
