Why do the head lights dash lights turn off and on and the security light come on when a Saturn l 200 has been running for an hour or more?

I do not have an answer, but I do have the same problem as you do. I have a 2001 L200, and from the moment you start the engine, every few seconds, the security light will flash and the temperature and gas gauge needles will act as if you turned off the car, and then pop back up where they should be. When the headlights are on, the dash lights will flash along with the security light and the gauges. The headlights and radio are not affected, though. In addition to that, the odometer has also stopped working. It has read the same milage since I noticed some time ago. I will let you know if I find out anything.

Because the lights were turned on manually instead of letting the automatic headlight illumination circuitry do its own thing. Turn the switch to "OFF" - it's part of the turn indicator arm.

First you must be able to use a test light. .. Remove the clam shell that encloses the steering column. Then with the key off and removed find the bundle of wires that go to the light switch. Turn on the head lights and probe the wires one by one till you find one that lights up. STAY AWAY FROM THE YELLOW WIRE BUNDLE THIS IS THE AIR BAG YOU WILL DIE. With the light probe lit turn off the headlights and if the probe goes out you have found the running light wire , try again till the wire goes out as the headlights do.
