There are more than a few people that live in desert climates. Millions in the United States, alone, live in desert climates. Look at a few desert cities: Las Vegas, Nevada, Phoenix, Arizona, Tucson, Arizona, El Paso, Texas. Also look at the Middle East and North Africa. Once again, millions live in the hot desert.

Many people, millions of them, apparently do like the desert climate. Look at such cities as Cairo, Egypt, or Las Vegas, Nevada, or Phoenix, Arizona. All are large cities in the desert and there are hundreds more.

Millions upon millions of people live in cities and towns in desert areas around the world so the premise of your question is incorrect. However, water is the limiting factor and a desert can only support a population that has sufficient water resources.
