A Flute is a long, silver instrument that is held parallel to the ground. A Clarinet is black and is held with the bottom pointing to the ground. A clarinet can be wood, or a good quality of plastic. It is a very fun instrument to play it sounds pretty. It has more of an wood type of sound. No matter what it is made out of, it sounds like it is made or wood. A flute is metal. It sounds more airy but still sounds pretty. IT is also very fun to play. If you are the type that wants something really girly so people will think that you chose the best instrument, even though they don't know the difference, i would choose the flute. If you don't care what people think of you and you want to choose what if more fun and sounds the best, i would choose the clarinet.
I didn't really give you the best answer, but I am not sure what you really need.
Well, if you need this for research/an essay etc.. then go to Wkiipedia or an encyclopedia hard text even and look up both. I have polayed both: I play the flute now. Both are similar as they are woodwinds but the clarinet uses a reed
to assist the vibration of the air flow in the moutpiece whereas the flute uses
the air flow alone. The flute is definitely harder to learn to the level of comfortable enjoyment--the embouchure, your mouth/lips and air flow coupled
with the lip plate and fitting/hdad piece of the flute are crucial and sensitive and
always an issue at any level of play. Hope I helped if only a tad..be sure to play something--whether it is a clarinet or a flute--all great stuff!
It compares to a violin, but with a smoother sound.
the alto flute
a harmony flute is like a bass flute or an alto flute meanwhile a regular flute is anything other than those types : )
Alto flute has a lower pitch than a normal flute.
Flutes and Piccolos don't use reeds. Also for E.C., an oboe doesn't use a reed either. :)

You can transpose flute music for clarinet music. Flute is on concert pitch, most clarinets are not. Example: A flute's Bb is a clarinet's C. Bb= B flat
It compares to a violin, but with a smoother sound.
The flute note range typically spans from middle C to three octaves above. This range is similar to the clarinet and saxophone, but lower than the violin and piano.
I have a Uebel Bass Clarinet in excellent condition. It was given to me by my uncle in about 1975. He lived in Grunbach, East Germany. Is this something you are interested in??
